This isn't true for everybody here, i replay the banjo games almost yearly and love them to pieces so i know exactly how they look and are designed, i'm not commenting through rose tinted nostalgia goggles either.
This level does look bland, colourless and lifeless even compared to the most barren and drab banjo levels.
The scale looks even bigger than dk64 which is not a good sign, especially given the size of the assets placed into the level and it also doesn't look like there is a thoughtful main structure holding the level together.
You're right, it's not true for everyone.
I really believe that if Kootenai river casino bonners was made today in Capital casino yooka laylee instead of when it was, people wouldn't like it.
Expectations are different nowadays.
The other thing is that this is a casino level, and casinos are lifeless and horrible places to be.
Sonic made casinos a fun theme, but overall casinos are not hours operation casino woodbine />They're loud, garish, ugly places.
It's definitely different from any levels in Banjo, but casino wouldn't have been my first pick for a level theme.
It's not enough to make me say "Whoa, this game is going to be complete shiiiiiit.
All the Rare games had a level or two I didn't really look forward to.
I hate Jolly Roger Lagoon, Clanker's Cavern, and I'm https://chicago-lawyer.info/casino/red-rock-casino-pool-cabana.html a huge Terrydactyland fan either.
EDIT: If I could add any critiques, it would be to make the animation when Yooka gets hit more animated, and to change the sound effect for the speed up roll move.

If you go down the Japan route with their Pachinko parlours, or even consider the Las Vegas strip, you'd be more familiar with the connotation of sensory overload with bright colours, flashing lights, and deafening metallic sounds.
This looks more like an uninspired Unity engine tech demo with someone who's never used proper lighting click here before.

I've been to Las Vegas multiple times.
It's a horrible, miserable assault on the senses that I never want to revisit.
There is nothing to do if you don't like to gamble or spend tons of cash and everyone is trying to fleece you, and I get a headache just thinking about the constant flashing lights and garish aesthetics.
Casinos are places old people go learn more here whittle away the final years of their life before they're shipped off to nursing homes or die alone in their homes broke as fuck from their gambling debts.
A fake casino in a cartoon platformer can only be an upgrade.
It could end up being as bad as everyone thinks it is, but I don't think it will.
Hi all, Andy from Playtonic here.
There was some miscommunication on our side which meant that this video went up not quite as we intended absolutely no fault of IGN's and doesn't really offer the full picture of the level.
However, later this month media will have the opportunity to capture the first few hours of the near-final game, so you should get a much more representative look at what the whole Yooka-Laylee package has to offer The negativity in this thread is hilariously depressing.
People claiming it to be another failed kickstarter just because of one brief snippet of a level.
Considering you seem to not enjoy maybe this game never was something you were going to enjoy.
The Jungle and Ice world look fantastic to me but this Casino level footage has been empty.

I wouldn't pay it much mind.
Gaf has had a horrible track record of jumping to conclusions and this past year and being wrong in the end.
I'm just gonna wait and see myself.
Not exactly surefire stunners.
And in Sonic's case, no gameplay has even been shown yet.
Considering you seem to not enjoy maybe this game never was something you were going to enjoy.

You should speak with some perspective, Sonic is not a bad franchise, Knack has one game, the Crash remake looks fine with me, and I backed Yooka so I think it looks pretty awesome In these cases, "In my opinion" does wonders in order to have a polite conversation, if you keep denying everyone's opinion well.
That's awful Off topic: I want a Laylee plush so bad So is this game more like Mario 64 where there are "missions" to do in each world or is it just a big open area that you go around collecting little things?
How do you know when you're done with a world?

You generally have a counter of the amount of items left in a world in Banjo, so I'd imagine it's the same here.

Maybe you peeps are just seeing Banjo without the nostalgia goggles for the first time because this looks like a super faithful tribute to Banjo to me.
I think they could have maybe shown some quick clips from a world that had more color.
There some levels in BK that were bland as fuck.
Clankers Cavern being one example.
Imagine seeing Clanker Cavern the first time playing or seeing BK.
Yeah it isnt pretty.
The first 2 worlds in BK were great.
Mumbos Mountain and Treasure Trove Cove my personal favorite.
I will wait for some more final footage.
But that level really needs more lights.
Hi all, Andy from Playtonic here.

However, later this month media will have the opportunity to capture the first few hours of the near-final game, so you should get a much more representative look at what the whole Yooka-Laylee package has to offer I appreciate the statement although personally I think the game looks great.
Gaf for the most part seems to think this should look and play like a AAA release like Ratchet and Clank which doesn't make any sense to me since its an indy game with a kickstarter budget and made to be like B+K not some other series.
Speaking as a backer I thought this video was fine.
Some lighting issues to be sure, certainly didn't look as vibrant and colorful as I've seen from previous levels but gameplay looks solid and I enjoyed seeing some new moves I didn't see before.
Also on the note about empty space as I've seen that complaint before this video as well.
Theres a lot of empty space in those games as well more in Tooie to be sure but its scale is much bigger and personally I'm fine with that.
I don't need constant things shoved in my face because they can, I don't want this to play like Ratchet and Clank or Knack, I want this to play like a Banjo game and from what I've played and seen it does just that.
I guess I'm just confused on why people seem to be expecting things that aren't realistic.
It's a spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie, its not Banjo Threeie with Microsoft or another huge publisher behind it, its an indy game from the folks that worked on the old BK games.
It's just Yooka-Laylee and I'm perfectly see more with check this out capital casino yooka laylee have examples of the de facto casino styles all over the industry: Actually shows how important lighting is though All of the above are platformers but the theme ends up used in the majority of both other genre's casinos and in actual casinos.
They have about 2 casino closest to atlanta georgia to polish this up and right now it barely looks like a casino when wandering around its large empty boxes.
The other levels we've seen look great and vibrant so it just needs some of that.

You know, there's something a lot of folks might be forgetting about, now that I think about it.
In the past, Playtonic's made a big deal of how we'll have the option to use pagies to actually expand the worlds and make them larger and more lively.
As with all the worlds in Yooka-Laylee, players can choose to expand Captial Cashino and capital casino yooka laylee the environment even larger and more complex, with whole new areas to explore, characters to meet and challenges to complete.
And if you find Dr.
Puzz, she has a head-spinning transformation to unlock!
Maybe that's why the world looks really flat and generic at the moment.
Perhaps IGN showed it off in its default state without expanding it.
Perhaps that's what Andy means when he said the video "doesn't really offer the full picture of the level.
Maybe you peeps are just seeing Banjo without the nostalgia goggles for the first time because this looks like a super faithful tribute to Banjo to me.
Guys, please, stop saying this.
Maybe it's you that haven't played Banjo in a long time, because Banjo levels are relatively small and always packed with stuff to do in each corner.
Tooie is another matter entirely, and way more similar to what we've seen of YL, but if we talk the original it's absolutely not barren or boring.
I don't mind the Tooie sized levels because the size or supposedly barren nature of those worlds was never the issue, it was the obnoxious amount of effort required for Jiggies.
I think the only levels in Kazooie where you needed to backtrack were Freezeezy Peak and Gobi's Valley because both levels had a move that the other required, everything else you could complete in one go.
In Tooie it seemed like every time you found a Jiggy there were 15 other steps you had to take before you could actually get it.
That casino level looks like an HD remaster of the game if it were first released on N64.
It really contrasts from everything else I've seen of this game.
Idk why you guys have to falsely put down BT to put up YL.
Yes, the level were big.
No, there weren't huge swaths of empty both in terms of enemies and landscapeflat land.

Very uninspired level visually, but I dig the gameplay a lot.
Definitely feels a more polished banjo.
Even more apparent how bare and empty the Yooka Laylee world looks like after watching Sonic's Casino areas throughout different games.
Makes me a bit sad, hope this is the only area that feels this way.
Both the level design as well as the sound design seemed terrible in that clip.
I'll pass on this one.
Wow, didn't watch the video to not get spoiled but didn't expect it to be so bad judging from reactions.
Kinda sad about it, still hoping that other levels are good, I still switched my console choice to the Switch, really want it to play it on portable mode.

It honestly just looks like busy work instead of an actual platformer built around continuity between level and mechanical design.
There is just nothing remarkable about it.
Even the art direction looks generic, like it was made with premade drag and drop items and not designed from scratch.
Far from the most terrible thing I've ever seen, but it's a far cry from a good platformer.
At least, from what I saw.
Everytime a new video comes out I want to love it.
I'm desperate for more platformers and banjo is one of my favorites of all continue reading, but everything about this game screams bland and generic.
Appreciate the heads up.
Like I said, people are jumping to conclusions on one gameplay video.
The criticism is valid.
It's not like people are just drive by crap posting.
You're entitled to your opinion but I have a hard time believing you are impartial based off of the avi lol.
I'm buying this but the IGN build doesn't look great.
Very bland visuals, lots of big empty spaces, bad imo music, and annoying sound effects especially the bat.
Never played banjo for more than 15 minutes tho not sure if that makes a difference.
I just saw the footage and it is the first time I'm concerned about the game's quality.
The level looks really flat visually, but I'm hoping it's a fluke since the other levels look better.
I liked the general controls in the toybox, but there is something to be said about it lacking the weight or punch of Banjo and Kazooie.
Also the level doesn't seem to have any particular focus unlike Banjo levels that revolve around a big landmark.
Regardless I'm happy to have backed the game and will probably have a lot of fun with it.
I'm just not expecting a dream "Banjo-Threeie" from it any more.
I now think this game won't be a darling throwback like Shovel Knight, but also won't bomb out like Mighty No.
I just hope the prevailing argument why this game disappointed capital casino yooka laylee be that it's the same quality as Banjo minus nostalgia.
Banjo-Kazooie has been around for almost 20 years and there's reason why it is still commonly mentioned as one of the best non-Mario 3D platformers.
Glad I wasn't the only person who thought this area looked bland as heck compared to the rest of the game.
Anyways, I'm going to reserve any proper judgement til i play it, which will hopefully be at GDC since we're lucky enough to be demoing alongside them for an event thingy!

Kazooie is such a tight, beautifully designed game with levels just as big as they need to be to achieve satisfaction.
Tooie, while having plenty of fun challenges and gameplay, was just an absolute beast to play.
It took what Kazooie did and bloated it x1000.
I simply stopped, after finding out halfway through the game I need to backtrack through like three levels and do ten things to set up the shit I need to get this Jiggy.
Midground to those two games would be amazing!
While this particular video is lacking, still have high hopes for Yooka and will buy day 1 to support the team and this type of game.
Since I know they will be reading this - hi folks, best of luck The criticism is valid.
It's not like people are just drive by crap posting.
You're entitled to your opinion but I have a hard time believing you are impartial based off of the avi lol.
I definitely agree that the footage shown for this world is weak so I wouldn't call myself bias.
Either way, I'm hoping this here doesn't reflect the last few worlds we don't know about.

Could you comment on if that's been fixed?
I think that's a major reason this is looking a bit dated in the video above.
Perhaps the entire level's lightmaps just weren't done in this build?
Capital Cashino (Aquatics) - Yooka-Laylee
In the expanded version of this map, I've found a total of 45x Casino. This Plinko machine has a large picture of Yooka and Laylee in its ...

In it something is also idea excellent, agree with you.
